The origins of the Bucca Dhu and its counterpart, the Bucca Gwidden are lost in time. 

It has even been said that both Buccas are the faded versions of the two sides of the Horned God once worshipped by the Cornovvi, the original Celtic tribe of Cornwall. It has also been suggested that the Bucca was a separate pagan sea deity.

Some believe the Buccas are an ancient tribe of fairy folk.

The Bucca Dhu is not inherently evil but is more easily angered than the Bucca Gwidden, more of a trickster, vengeful and intolerant of human ways.
